Facilitating affordable academic travel for college students and scholars leads to new innovations that better our world.
College is a place for problem-solving, thoughtful observation, discovery, and application. As a student, scholar, or professor, traveling is paramount to advancing research and collaboration.
We created Sabbatical Homes to help scholars reduce travel costs by renting or exchanging housing within the academic community. To further help enable educational travel we keep our setup fees low. But we understand that is only the beginning of getting on the move.
In an effort to help more scholars get on the move, we’ve compiled a comprehensive list of fellowship, scholarship, and grant funding. Additionally, you are invited to apply for our educational travel scholarship opportunity of $1,500.
Fellowships, Scholarships, & Grants
American Council of Learned Societies
A private non-profit federation of sixty-one national scholarly organizations. The mission of the ACLS, as set forth in its constitution, is to “advance humanistic studies in all fields of learning in the Humanities and the related social sciences and to maintain and strengthen relations among the national societies devoted to such studies.”
American Philosophical Society
Supports several major grant and fellowship programs to assist the promotion of useful knowledge. Awards are made for research only. Applicants must be residents of the United States or American citizens resident abroad. Grants are made to individuals only.
The Ford Foundation
Grants for innovative people and organizations.
John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Foundation
Provides fellowships to assist research and artistic creation for scholars, artists, & scientists.
Robert Wood Johnson Foundation
Offers three-year fellowships, designed to allow recipients to remain in their current positions, and are intended to offer the experiences, insights, competencies and skills necessary “to achieve or advance in executive leadership positions in a healthcare systems undergoing unprecedented change.”
W.K. Kellogg Foundation
Support is provided to foster children’s education and health, secure families, racial equity, and civic engagement.
The NEA Foundation
Leadership in professional development–to enhance teaching and learning.
MacArthur Fellows Program
Provides unrestricted fellowships to exceptionally talented and promising individuals who have shown evidence of originality, dedication to creative pursuits, and capacity for self-direction. The MacArthur Fellows Program accepts nominations only from the more than 100 designated nominators across the country in a range of academic and professional fields.
James Madison Fellowship Foundation
Established by Congress for the purpose of improving teaching about the United States Constitution in secondary schools, offers two types of fellowships: Junior Fellowships are awarded to students who are about to complete, or have recently completed, their undergraduate course of study and plan to begin graduate work on a full-time basis. Junior Fellows have two years to complete their degrees. Senior Fellowships are awarded to experienced teachers who wish to undertake work for a graduate degree on a part-time basis through summer and evening classes. Senior Fellows have up to five years to complete their degree.
National Endowment for the Humanities
The NEH provides support for six to twelve months of full-time work on a project that will make a significant contribution to thought and knowledge in the humanities. Includes, but is not limited to the study of history; philosophy; languages; linguistics; literature; archaeology; jurisprudence; the history, theory, and criticism of the arts; ethics; comparative religion; and those aspects of the social sciences that simply historical or philosophical approaches.
National Institutes of Health
Summer internship program, post baccalaureate research opportunities, graduate education program, clinical and research training programs for medical and dental students.
National Science Foundation
NSF promotes the progress of science and supports fellowships and associated training in science, mathematics, engineering, and technology disciplines.
Rhodes Schoarship
For all majors with high academic acheivement, proven commitment, service and physical stamina. A Rhodes Scholarship is tenable at the University of Oxford. It may be held for a maximum of three years.
School of American Research
As part of its mission to promote excellent scholarship and effective communication in the social sciences and humanities, SAR offers two competitive awards.
Social Science Research Council
These programs provide pre-dissertation and dissertation fellowships, postdoctoral fellowships, and advanced research grants in both the social sciences and humanities.
United States Institute of Peace
An independent, nonpartisan federal institution created by congress to promote research, education, and training on the peaceful resolution of international conflicts.
Woodrow Wilson National Fellowship Foundation
Awards approximately 20 residential fellowships annually in an international competition to individuals with outstanding project proposals in a broad range of the social sciences and humanities on national and/or international issues – topics that intersect with questions of public policy.
